How police pay works
The game’s police briefing tells new cops to arrest Criminals and confiscate their bags to earn a paycheck. The better the gear you confiscate, the more you get paid. At the end of the shift your salary comes from the warehouse, and only a small part of it is cash.
Three things raise pay for a while. Ordering a Criminal to surrender boosts the arrest reward, patrolling with an active siren adds a salary bonus, and answering a call for backup adds hazard pay. Each shift also has an earnings limit.
Police badge prices
Kefir’s November 4 update says cops now buy police badges, and the choice depends on the district they live in. On a fresh server, patrol cops only get pistols, and better gear unlocks as the server gets older. Badge prices from our data:

What cops can and can’t do
The Police can only kill Criminals, and they can arrest Criminals who raised their hands or were knocked out. An arrested Criminal keeps their equipment but loses their bag, and other Criminals can try to free them. Cops can’t use personal items on shift; the department holds your gear and hands it back when you clock out.
